There’s a small town in Brazil named Cândido Godói, where the birth rate of twins is 1 in 10. It is, essentially, a paradise for people who love twins. Episode 6 of Nyan Koi is also a paradise for people who love twins. Especially if those people that love twins love twins with twin-tails. The twin-tailed twins of Nyan Koi’s twin-tailed twin episode are both as similar and as different as one might expect twin-tailed twins to be. One is a fiesty twin-tailed twin, whereas the other twin-tailed twin is not a fiesty twin-tailed twin, but rather, she is a mellow twin-tailed twin. Regardless of whether you like your twin-tailed twins to be fiesty or mellow, you have both kinds of twin-tailed twins. Now all that’s missing from Nyan Koi is the glasses moe.

And they go to an amusement park to do stuff. And talk. Then a hottie shows up. Who is she? What does she know? Where did she get that scarf? cuz it’s pretty cool. That’s a really nice scarf. I’d wear it if I wore scarves, which I don’t, but if I did, I would. Cuz that’s a pretty cool scarf. Then Mizuno ???s. Enjoy their date. Some nice progress is made, though you have to wonder at the effectiveness of it all.

As I read the title of episode 03, I was struck by the similarities between the episode’s possible story and the story of “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe. Both protagonists are harassed by cats intent on harassing them for harassment purposes. Similarities abound! The narrator of “The Black Cat” is an unreliable narrator, has visions of his previous cat (who he murdered), and suffers from a mild case of insanity; Junpei from Nyan Koi is male! Shocking! The first black cat from “The Black Cat” has the name Pluto; the cats in Nyan Koi have probably heard of the concept of names! Electrifying! What’s more, take a look at this excerpt from “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe:

“You know, I was crazy once. They locked me in a rubber room. It was cold. I died. They buried me. There were worms. I hate worms. Worms tickle. You know, I was crazy once. They locked me in a rubber room. It was cold. I died. They buried me. There were worms. I hate worms. Worms tickle. You know…”

Poetry in motion, no? As you watch this episode, remember this excerpt and marvel at how Edgar Allen Poe’s ancient themes work so well in modern day anime.

You see the obvious blocks in the first images in each set?  We saw that before the initial release, and created the better version.  I, having had a bit too much to drink that night, released the bad version.  That’s what happened, and that’s why we’re now releasing the proper version.  I hope this post clarify some of the confusion.

When I owned a cat, it was the cuddliest, cutest, comfortablest thing of all. I didn’t have to take it out for walks, clean up after it, worry about it humping important guests, or any of that dog stuff. It was self-sufficient and cuddly, and even though it didn’t care about me, I still loved it.

Now, I’ve never owned a cat, but if I did, I would never want to hear it talk. I’m pretty sure it’d be nothing but “Feed me, servant. Pay attention to me, fool. You are only here for my amusement, idiot.” I already have a cat; I don’t need another non-cat.

Unfortunately for our poor protagonist, he can hear cats speak. What will he do? Who are the girls? Why did the monkey eat the xylophone? The answers to these questions (and more!) may or may not be answered in this episode (They aren’t. [Or are they?]).
