K-On!! – 04
April 29th, 2010 by Sylf
As I lived closer to Kyoto than Yui and Co. does, my school trip to Kyoto happened when I was in 6th grade. We did visit Kinkaku-ji like they did. This was a year before the restoration of 1986-1987, so the main building was nowhere near as shiny as it looks now. I know I wasn’t too terribly impressed by how it looked back then. Nontheless, Kyoto is pretty fun place to visit. If you get a chance to visit, you should try visiting Kyoto, even if it’s a cliche spot, along with making anime pilgrimage to Akiba etc.
P.S.
This was my translation #800.

Woo sightseeing.ツ I’m terribly looking forward to when I get to leave the US to go travel overseas on my own.ツ This spot would definitely be on my list of places to go if I were doing touristy things in Japan.
I’m off to Japan again this year with three nights penciled in for Kyoto – might head over to Nara as well.. can’t wait. Back to studying so I only come across as partially retarded when I butcher the language!
Congrats on #800!
I agree with the Kyoto commentary; it was pretty cool when I visited a few years ago. I swear, they have the best mochi there.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for all 800 Sylf (Energizer Bunny)!
This release has problems:
[h264 @ 00B2DC90]concealing 3600 DC, 3600 AC, 3600 MV errors
[h264 @ 00B2DC90]abs_diff_pic_num overflow
[h264 @ 00B2DC90]decode_slice_header error
I’m having this problem as well. Every time I try to play the episode, somehow something in it creates a conflict with Windows’ C++ Runtime (as far as I know from the message I get).
Could somebody fix this please?
weird.. have had any issues playing the video using MPC and VLC.ツ Try using them and see if the issue still exist.
or why not download c++ runtime from microsoft or filehippo to overwrite or update the one on your system.
hope this helps.
I agree with the comment : Kyoto is a wonderfull city, I spend 3 days sight-seeing this surprising city. And yes, the Kinkaku-jin is one of the most beautiful buildings ever. And so is the sanjuusan gendo. But I think they are quite far from the building in the picture, in my memories, we were able to come very close… Am I wrong ?
Anyway, thank you very much for this episode. I really appreciate your job.
File is somewhat broken -_-
All i’m getting is corrupted video with lag.
I am using Mplayer btw.
Thanks <3 great work.
Thanks for all your hard work and congrats on #800!!!
I just got back from my visit to Kyoto, and we actually went to Ginkaku-ji instead, but that was pretty awesome too. Also went to the Eikando Zenrin-ji shrine which was pretty cool. And we spent the evening geisha spotting in the streets of Gion. If you have time, there’s the obligatory migration to the Kyoto Animation HQ right outside the JR Kohata station. Walk a little bit further into town and you’ll get to the KyoAni office as well as the KyoAni store.
I wonder if this will be noticed, but here’s a comment I spotted on THORA’s page:

I just wanted to let you guys know that you made a translation error in the 4th episode “School Trip.”
You have the subtitles saying “Flick” when they’re actually saying “Lycopene.”
Rikopin is the actual word they’re saying, and that’s translated to Lycopene in English. They’re not saying “Furikku.”
Just thought I’d let you know. Thanks for the releases and hope to see more! ^^

I really, really, really doubt it’s Lycopene/rikopin. It’s dekopin. I used to play it in school a lot. We play rock paper scissors, and the winner gets to flick the loser.
See this dork demonstrate art of dekopin with stuffed Totoro.
Well for what it’s worth, the subtitles on the Blu-Ray say リコピン.
That must be a slurred pronunciation literally taken to subtitle.
I don’t know, she says it several times and repeats it twice in episode 20 as well… The subtitles say the same thing each time.
I can’t believe you people are seriously suggesting that the correct word would be “Lycopene”. It clearly makes far, far less sense, and of all anime K-On!! isn’t a great one to call up the precise pronunciation to back an argument given the amount of retarded wordplay in the series.
That, and you’re questioning Sylf of all people.
If that was directed at me, I’m not arguing anything at all, just pointing out what the official subtitles say.
As for “Lycopene” making far less sense – why is that, exactly? Whether it was “lycopene”, “dekopin” or “purple monkey dishwasher”, Ritsu just said a random word that had nothing to do with anything. It doesn’t “make sense” to begin with.
But whatever. I have no horse in this race.
